Eye Exams

The pediatric eye exams we give children and adolescents are similar to our comprehensive eye exams, with two distinct differences:

1. We check for conditions that are much more common in children, like myopia and strabismus.
2. Our team uses smaller, child-friendly equipment during the examination.

If you have diabetes, you are at a higher risk of developing eye complications, such as diabetic retinopathy, cataracts, or glaucoma. Our diabetic eye exams include a comprehensive eye exam, plus a dilated eye exam and a retinal scan to check for any signs of damage or emerging symptoms. We also work closely with your primary care physician to coordinate your care and treatment.

If you prefer contact lenses over glasses, or want to try them for the first time, you need a contact lens exam to determine the best fit and type for your eyes. Our contact lens exams include all the usual diagnostic tests that a comprehensive eye exam offers, plus additional tests to evaluate your cornea, tear film, and eyelid health. We also offer a wide range of contact lens options, including toric lenses, rigid gas permeable lenses, and multifocal lenses.

Plaquenil is a medication used to treat certain autoimmune diseases, like lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and Sjögren’s syndrome. One rare side effect of Plaquenil is that it can potentially damage the retina, at the back of the eye, which means long-term Plaquenil use can cause permanent vision loss. We make sure that any patient receiving this medication receives special diagnostic testing of their retina.
